During the 2014 Spring season, The Hong Kong Women’s Choir performed songs based on the theme of heartbreak and redemption, including Emotion by Barry Gibb and Robin Gibb, All The Single Ladies by Beyonce Knowles, Forget You by Bruno Mars and Seasons of Love from the musical Rent. Two concerts titled “Stronger” were held at The Helena May (May 9) and The Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club (May 17) and an additional a cappella concert was held by Grace Notes titled “Love Me or Leave Me” on May 16 at Club Lusitano.
During the 2013 Christmas holiday season, The Hong Kong Women’s Choir held two concerts titled “An Extraordinary Christmas” at the Methodist International Church (December 11) and St. John’s Cathedral (December 18). Grace Notes held an additional a cappella concert titled “Home on that Rock” at Club Lusitano (December 10). The songs performed ranged from traditional pieces such as the Ukraninan folk tune Sleigh Bells and Carols of the Bells to Christmas pop songs, including A Glee-ful Chrismas and Deck the Rooftop (both original GLEE arrangements).

The Christmas concerts raised funds for two charities in Hong Kong: the Wing Han Educational Foundation Ltd., an organization helping under-privileged youths improve their educational environment and opportunities; and Sunshine Action, a humanitarian and peace organization feeding the hungry and supporting the poor.
Our Spring concert at the Hong Kong Country Club, together with Grace Notes’ a capella concert “Diamonds are Forever” at Club Lusitano, raised over $50,000 for Sunshine Action.

Titled “Swingin’ at Santa’s Place”, our Christmas concerts at the Methodist International Church and Rosary Church, together with Grace Notes’ a capella concert “Home on That Rock” at Club Lusitano, raised more than $55,000 for Silence, an organization with the mission of helping the hearing impaired.

In the 15th anniversary of the choir, the concert titled “Lean on Me” raised more than $412,000 for Children’s Cancer Foundation.
We had a particularly busy season this fall. Our very own fund raising concerts were held on December 9th at the Rosary Church and on Decmeber 15th at The Helena May.
We began with some classical pieces and sang with harp accompaniment. The second half of the programme was more of a pop style with songs such as Jingle Bells, Last Christmas and so on.
Funds raised in these concerts will be donated to Harmony House, an organization which seeks to prevent domestic violence and to provide shelters to those who suffer from it.

We were invited by the LCSD to perform in Kowloon Walled City Park on December 18th.
We were also booked by private parties at various club houses and venues in the first three weeks of December, bringing fun festive music around Hong Kong.
Two concerts were held in the spring season. One on May 4th at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre and another one on June 3rd at the Hong Kong Football Club. More than $100,000 were raised and donated to Suicide Prevention Services, an organization serving people who are suicidal, despairing or in emotional distress.
The choir sang a colourful array of genres including Proud Mary, Put a Little Love in your Heart, I Got Rhythm, Don’t Worry Be Happy, Chili Con Carne, Turn the Beat Around, Java Jive, Dancing Queen, Moon River, Time after Time and so on. There was also a tribute to Brazilian composer, Carlos Jobim, who popularized the Bossa Nova rhythm: Felicdade, Corcovado, Agua de Beba…
Dinner concerts were held on May 20 and May 27 at the Hong Kong Football Club and the Hong Kong Jockey Club. Songs on men and women were sung including Girls Wanna Have Fun, Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend, I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair, I’m Not That Girl, …. etc.
Thanks to our members and our patrons, these concerts were sold out. Funds raised were passed to Room2Read and Missionaries of Charities NT.
